How good at basic golf skills is young Carter Lamont of Vinton?
Carter, the son of Curtis and Tiffany Lamont, was good enough to win the 7 and under division of Iowa PGA Drive, Chip & Putt Championship, which was held Saturday, Aug. 10, at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
He is also good enough to win the age 8-9 category; his score of 112 total points was 18 more than the second place 7-year-old and nine points higher than the top 9-year-old. He would have placed second among 10-year-olds.
Yes, he's that good.
And when it comes to putting, he was the only golfer age 11 or under to hit all 40 of his putt attempts. The only other two competitors to accomplish that were in the age 12-13 division.
The contest consisted of driving, chipping and putting. Each contestant had four rounds of 10 attempts at each. The top three rounds of driving and chipping and all four putting rounds, added up to the final score.
Carter's score was 112.

Carter has also enjoyed success on the wrestling mat with the Little Viking Wresting Club.
