The Red Cedar Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, in conjunction with the Prairie Creek Chapter of Pheasants Forever, will be hosting it's 2nd Annual "Intro to Trap Shooting" event for interested trap shooters ages 12 and up on Saturday, October 12th from 1-5 p.m. at the Ikes Club on Hwy 150.
"We've had a lot of people drive by the Ikes Club when the Vinton-Shellsburg Red Cedar Shooters have been practicing or hosting home meets in the spring, or seeing the activities taking place on Thursday evenings during the Ikes weekly open trap shoots, and have shown interest in learning how to trap shoot. This is a chance for anyone who has never done it before to get all of their questions answered, and maybe even take a few shots at some moving targets before the day is over," Jeff Tilson, V-S Red Cedar Shooters Coach said today. "It's also a great chance for younger kids interested in joining the Red Cedar Shooters Trap Team in High School to get a head start by having some basic knowledge and skills before they reach High School," Tilson added.
The class is open to anyone ages 12 and up, and there is no cost involved due to a generous donation by the Prairie Creek Chapter of Pheasants Forever, and the local Ikes Club. Youth shooters must possess a DNR Iowa Hunter Safety Certificate, and be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the shooting portion of the class.
The class will be instructed by NRA/CMP/USAS Certified Shotgun Coaches, and will cover trap shooting rules and etiquette, proper gun selection and fitting, target tracking, and the day will end with a chance for all participants to test their skills on the trap range if they wish.
Pre-registration is required, and can be done by e-mailing the attendee's name, address and phone number to redcedarcoach@gmail.com
