Drake head women's golf coach Leanne Smith has announced the signings of prep standouts Madison Glennie (Clearwater, Fla./Countryside) and Brooke Miller(Pomona, Calif./Diamond Bar), granddaughter of Dave and Marcia Hite of Vinton, to national letters of intent to join the Bulldog program for the 2014-15 academic year.
"I’m extremely excited that Madison and Brooke have decided to join our team and continue their academic and collegiate playing careers at Drake,” Smith commented. “They both add considerable depth to our squad next season following the graduation this spring of Hadley Jennings, who has maintained our lowest scoring average over the last two years."
A three-time individual state qualifier at Countryside High School, Glennie garnered a runner-up individual finish Florida High School Athletic Association Championship as a senior. She twice has qualified for the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Junior Girls Championship. Glennie is a member of championship squads on the Florida State Golf Associations’ Florida Junior Tour in 2010 and 2012, as well as a third-place finish in 2013. She is one of 12 members nationally on the AJGA HP Scholastic Jr. All-America squad.
“Madison has a considerable amount of tournament experience at the highest level and I expect she will impact us immediately,” said Smith. “Madison is also very talented in the classroom and will be an asset to Drake University.”
A four-year letterwinner at Diamond Bar High School, Miller sparked the Brahmas to Hacienda League championships during each of her four seasons. She was a member of California state runner-up squads as a junior and senior, as well as being a catalyst for California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section championships teams during her junior and senior campaigns. Miller was named the Johnson Junior Golf Tour Female Player of the Year in 2012 and currently ranks as the point leader in 2013.
“Brooke has a great work ethic and is an extremely athletic golfer that will be a great addition to our squad,” Smith explained. “I can’t wait to see the strides she’ll make in her golf game over the next couple years.”
Glennie and Miller are the initial student-athletes to sign national letters of intent with Smith and the Bulldogs for the 2014-15 campaign.
