Two days ago, former Vinton-Shellsburg and Mount Mercy softball standout Liz Hill was named the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Class 1A Northeast District Coach of the Year. Also honored on that All-District team were Kendra and Courtney Cooper, Liz's 8th and 9th-grade cousins and Lansing Kee pitchers; as well as Kee junior Valerie Meyer.

Then yesterday, Hill's team defeated second-ranked Lynnville-Sully, 4-0, to advance to the second round of the State Softball Tournament.

Kendra Cooper pitched a complete game shut-out, giving up five hits and no walks while striking out five.

The Kee Hawks advance to play AGWSR (Ackley Geneva Wellsburg Steamboat Rock) at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at INS field in Fort Dodge.
