Welcome to another episode of Brian’s Views from the Grandstands. It was a very comfortable evening Sunday for racing on Back to School night. There was a kids candy dash afterthe evenings show.
All 25 cars started the Hobby Stock feature. Jeremy Floyd was the early leader from the pole. On lap 3 Justin Stander would pass the Floyd machine. Stander would be the recipient of good fortune as a caution would fly on the same lap that he fell off the backstretch and lost the lead. Since the track reverts back to the previous lap Stander got his position back. Floyd got a flat tire while in second place and after the next caution the time limit was reached handing the victory to Stander. Rod Grother finished 2nd with August Bach and Shannon Anderson the top 4. Heat races were won by Bach, Justin Lichty, and Stander
Next up was the Sport Compacts. 20 cars were here tonight. Steve Meidke would take the early lead. 3 cautions would fly during the feature event with the thrid one being for the 2nd place car of Meidke who lost a tire in turns 3 and 4. Gary Peiffer took over the lead 2 laps prior to this caution. Peiffer would go on to win followed by Nathan Chandler, Merv Chandler, and Justin Wacha. Heat races were won by Bill Whalen, Jr, Meidke, and Wacha.
28 Sportmods were on hand tonight to battle for the right to start the 24 car feature event. It would take 3 tries to get a lap in the books. Officials then restarted the field single file. The lead was a revolving door as lap pone was led by Rick Paulson, On lap 2, Drew Fish took over the lead, and on lap 3 Danny Dvorak took over the top spot. Dvorak would go on to take the checkers. Fish would finish 2nd with Austin Kaplan and Curt Hilmer the unofficial top 4. Heat races were won by Fish, Joel Rust, Dvorak, and Bryan Rodman. B Mains were won by Cory Tharp and Dave Schulze.
16 Stock Cars were set to do battle on the ¼-mile. Paul Shepherd was the early leader, but was then overtaken by Justin Temeyer on lap 2. One caution would slow the event after 3 laps were scored complete. Temeyer took the win by almost half a lap. Damon Murty finished in second with Norman Chesmore and Shepherd the top 4. Heat races were won by Nathan Wood and Murty.
The final event was the Modifieds. 18 cars were on hand tonight. A first lap accident would collect Ron Lauritzen, Jerry Dedrick, Pat Flannigan, Todd Jensen, Troy Cordes, and Shawn Fisher. After that the rest of the race would stay green as points leader Scott Hogan took the win. Joe Docekal finished second with Mark Schulte and Jerry Luloff the unofficial top 4. Heat races were won by Fisher, Flannigan, and Lauritzen.
That’s it for this week. Please note that the races on August 29th, is the Autism awareness night. They will be having kid’s bike races. Each kid participating will receive a trophy, but they must be signed up next week so that the track knows how many trophies to order. From what I understand the kids will be able to get their picture taken by Action Track Photography in victory lane with their trophy. Parents can then order those pictures from Action Track and a portion of the processing fee will be donated to the Autism society. Thanks again for reading and we’ll do it again next week.
