Ten swimmers from the Vinton Aquatic Club qualified for the Iowa Swimming 12 and Under State Championship event, which took place Feb. 20-22 in Iowa City.

The swimmers qualified by achieving a qualifying time throughout the year; 400 swimmers from throughout the state competed.

VAC members who earned a spot in the event included Tori Elwick and Elyah Steffen (girls 8 and under); Wesley and Broden Farrell (boys 8 and under); Justyce Dominick (girls 9-10); Ian Steffen (boys 9-10); and Clarissa Carolan, Alex Hall, Natalie Tecklenburg and Geordyn Webster (girls 11-12).

The VAC placed 19th among the 30 teams with 55.5 points.

Individual High Point Awards included:

Girls 8 & Under: Tori Elwick, 14th; Elyah Steffen, 27th;

Boys 8 & Under: Wesley Farrell, 13th; Broden Farrell, 30th;

Boys 9-10: Ian Steffen, 36th;

Girls 11-12: Geordyn Webster, 45th.

The top 16 swimmers in each event scored team points and received awards.

VAC members who placed included:

Girls 8 & Under: Tory Elwick, 6th in 100-yd freestyle and 11th in 50-yd freestyle; and Elyah Steffen, 14th, 100-yd freestyle.

Boys 8 & under: Wesley Farrell, 7th in 50-yd breaststroke and 9th in 100-yd individual medley.

Boys 9-10: Ian Steffen, 15th in 50-yd breaststroke.

Girls 11-12: Geordyn Webster, 10th in 50-yd butterfly and 15th in 50-yd breaststroke.
