The Vinton Country Club held its Men’s Golf Championship on Sunday, August 22. Twenty-Four golfers took part in this flighted tournament that not only decided the club champion and handicap champion but also set the team for the Cedar Valley Ryder Cup event that will be held on Sunday, August 29, at the Vinton Country Club.
The tournament was an eighteen hole event that had golfers teeing it up beginning at 8 a.m. At the conclusion of the tournament the scores showed that Steve Berry held Vinton Country Club Championship trophy. Steve carded a 77, which was a tie with Mark Wilberg. Steve was triumphant in a three hole play-off.
The tournament also crowns the handicap champion annually. The handicap champion is the golfer who has the lowest net score after taking their scratch score and then subtracting their year long handicap. The winner of the handicap championship this year was Chris Boddicker. Chris shot a scratch 81 with a 13.28 handicap for a net 67.72. Mark Wilberg was second in the handicap race shooting a 77 with a 9.12 handicap, netting him a 67.88.
Next Sunday, twelve golfers from Wildcat, Vinton, LaPorteCity, Dysart, Tara Hillsand host Belle Plaine will compete in the Twelth Annual Cedar Valley Ryder Cup. Defending champion is Belle Plaine.
