The Vinton-Shellsburg sophomores came from behind against Maquoketa on Friday, winning 8-7, in Vinton.
The visiting Cardinals had a chance to win the game in the final minute, but Viking Max Griffith intercepted a pass in the end zone to seal the victory for the Vikings.
Earlier in the fourth quarter, Griffith had scored the Vikings' only touchdown. Chris Merchant scored on the two-point conversion to give the Vikings the 8-7 lead.
The sophs improve their season record to 2-1. They shut out Benton Community in Week 1, but lost to South Tama.
The Vikings travel to Center Point this week to take on Center Point-Urbana.
