Tuesday night at the IBSSS pool the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings split a double-dual defeating Williamsburg 65-29 while falling to Oskaloosa 56-37.
The Vikings captured 10 of 11 events from Williamsburg while racing out to an early commanding lead. The Vikes were up 22-12 at the first break and had the win all but secured by the second break leading by a score of 44-24.
Against Oskaloosa the meet was tight before Osky put it a way down the stretch on the strength of their last two relays. At the first intermission the Vikes trailed by four 19-15 and through seven events they remained in striking distance down just 31-26. But the strength of the Osky relays proved too much in the end, outpointing the Vikings in the three relays by a score of 23-7.
The top performances for the night came from some of the younger, new swimmers with Sophomore Lewis Williams turning in 4 new personal best times – one for each of his events. The first-year brother combination of Junior Luke (2) and Thomas (3) Osborn collectively recorded five new best marks. Together these three swimmers earned 9 of the 22 new best times for the evening.
The Vikings are back in action next Tuesday at the MVC Conference Super-meet / Karimitros Invitational at CR Washington prior to heading to the North Central Swim Conference Meet in Grinnell on Saturday the 30th.
