The Vinton-Shellsburg football team has learned its schedule and district assignments for the next two seasons. The Vikings will travel a bit less and play most of the neighboring schools in 2016 and 2017.

The Vikes have been assigned to Class 3A, District, 3, along with Benton Community, Charles City, Decorah, Independence, South Tama, Waverly-Shell Rock and C.R. Xavier.

For the past several years, the Vikings have begun the season playing their nearest rivals, Benton Community, in non-district action. The next two seasons, however, the Vikings will end the season playing BC. The Vikings will continue to see South Tama, but this time as a district foe.

The new schedule means the Vikings will spend a little less time on the bus for away games than they did the past two seasons, when the schedule included West Delaware, Clear Creek-Amana, and Cresco of Crestwood.

Much of the schedule is already familiar as the Vikings will continue competing against Decorah, Waverly-Shell Rock, Charles City, and Indepenence, as district opponents.
