Sports : Vikings edge Mount Vernon to win Sectional Tourney at Wildcat

The VS Viking golfers advanced to district play by winning their sectional tourney Friday carding a season best 298 edging Mount Vernon by 1 stroke as they came in with a 299.

Benton Community also advances to districts with Mount Vernon and the Vikings as they turned in a 313 for third place. Other scores were: 4th Center Point-Urbana 321, 5th Marion 323, 6th Central Dewitt 328, 7th Anamosa 337, 8th Maquoketa 346.

Mount Vernon’s Connor Hermann was the medalist shooting a 67. Tyler Stueck led the Vikings and was the runner-up medalist with a 2 under 68. Landon Pace of Benton Community was 3rd with a 74 and Marion’s Trey Clifton was 4th also with a 74. The Vikings has strong scores with 3 more in the 70’s: Grant Noren 75, Mike DeLong 77, and Austin Bohnsack 78, Bryce Shaw 83, and Tanner Cummings 84.

District play starts Wednesday at the Amana Colonies.
