Sports : Vikette soccer team honors seniors, to host Regional opener May 31

Tuesday was Senior Night for the V-S girls soccer team, and the Vikettes honored eight players who are nearing the end of their high school careers: Maci Griffith, Daisy Johnson, Abby Gloede, Lyndsey Cornell, Grace Milroy, Emily Reisch, Emily Howes-Vonstein and Chloe Osborn.

Coach Dave Cornell mentioned each by name in a post-game ceremony, thanking each for their contributions.

The Vikettes (7-8) lost to Dewitt Central, 4-0. They end their regular season at Monticello on Thursday.

The new field turf has given the Vikettes their first opportunity to host post-season game. V-S will play Cedar Valley Christian in Vinton on May 31. V-S is in Class 1A, Region 6, which also includes Center Point-Urbana, Benton Community, Dyersville Beckman, West Delaware and Denver. The winner of each of the 8 regional tournaments will advance to State.
