2016 Vinton-Shellsburg graduate Lauren Tandy has become the latest Vikette golfer to receive the Iowan Women Golfers Association's Ann Griffel Scholarship. Along with four other female golf enthusiasts who graduated from an Iowa high school this year, Tandy will receive a $2,000 scholarship payable to the college she chooses. She will attend Mount Mercy College and be a member of the Mustang golf team.

"Vinton and later, Vinton-Shellsburg, has been fortunate to have several young women earn this scholarship and Lauren is the latest," says Vikette golf coach Janet Woodhouse.

Tandy finished 4th in the State Golf Meet earlier this year, becoming the highest-placing golfer in Vikette history. She had finished 11th the year before. She has also received the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union's award for excellence in academic achievement.

Previous Ann Griffel Scholarship winners include Viketes Anne Woodhouse White (1988), Melanie Mann Blais (1991), Megan Christy Johnson (2005), Laura Wilberg Dierks (2008) and Erin Randall (2013).

Ann Griffel was an avid golfer and a long-time President of the IWGA.
