What a way to cap off a great season! WaMaC champs, Prairie Invitational champs, Regional #1 champs, State qualifiers and State 3A 6th place team! The V-S girls golf team finished strong by improving their scores the second day. We had a lot of putts day one, and the girls went back to the range and putting green late that same day. Their extra time and effort paid off. On the front nine our putting total of 83 on the first day dropped to 71 day two from our four varsity counters. Ms Tandy was the only one who had previous State appearance when she went last year as an individual qualifier.
Our team will miss our two graduates, Emily Blake and Halie Engler; these girls were varsity we could depend upon all season. The team's returning players would quickly say they would like to repeat this experience, and we will begin this summer to make that goal become reality. These young ladies had to put in a lot of effort to earn this trip to State; they now know first hand what it takes.
We were grateful for the assistance of Pro Pat "Z" Zedrick from Cedar Rapids. Z came to many practices, meets and even the State tournament. Assistant coach, Scott Tandy, helped at practices and meets as well. It takes a village and we appreciate all of the support we received from parents, families, friends and the Vinton-Shellsburg communities. We also appreciate our unofficial "team photographer", Melissa Tandy, who so well documents the memories of each meet. A special shout out to the Vinton Country Club and Wildcat Golf Course for allowing us to practice and host meets at their fine facilities; we thank you for all you do.
VS to send two teams to State Coed Meet
Tuesday June 6 two V-S teams will play at the Legion Course at Marshalltown for the State Coed Golf Tournament: Mike DeLong/Brandi Gerber and Tanner Cummings/Rachel Tandy will represent V-S.
