Union Senior Tate Hookham qualified at Districts for state swimming in the 50 yard Freestyle. He will compete in the State meet this Saturday, at the U of I Aquatic/Wellness Center in Iowa City. Hookham is one of four Union athletes who compete on the Waterloo swimming team. The Waterloo Boys Swim team is open to students from the three Waterloo high schools, West, East, Columbus; as well as Union. This year the team of 22 swimmers were from West and Union. Union swimmers are Tate Hookham, Ben Dvorak, Alex Johnston and Joey Taylor. District Swim Meets were held Sat Feb 3. The Waterloo team competed at the meet in Ankeny. The top 24 finishers state-wide (6 districts, 49 teams), advance. Waterloo took nine varsity swimmers to Districts. Hookham swam a 22.16 in the 50 yard freestyle - a top 24 state wide time qualifying him for state swim on Feb 10. Hookham placed 11th in the 100 yard freestyle, and 7th in the 400 yard Freestyle relay with 3 other teammates. Ben Dvorak and 3 teammates placed 7th in the 200 Medley Relay, Dvorak placed 14th in the 200 Individual Medley Relay, and 13th in the 100 yard Breast Stroke. Dvorak, Hookham and 2 other teammates placed 8th in the 200 yard free relay.
