Sports : Four Viking wrestlers advance to State

Mike Betterton (106) was 2nd at the District meet in Independence, and will advance to State. Four Vinton Shellsburg wrestlers, Mike Betterton (106), and Scott Betterton (145) , Luke Radeke (132) and Carter Weeks (126), have earned a spot in this week's State Wrestling Tournament. Radeke was the District champion on Saturday; the other three VS wrestlers finished second. The Class 2A wrestlers begin first-round action at 9 a.m. Thursday, at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The VSHS student body will gather at the end of school on Wednesday for a pep rally and send-off. The Vikings are among a dozen area wrestlers who will make the trip to the Class 2A tourney. Union State qualifiers include:Adam Ahrendsen, Kolten Crawford, Jack Thomsen, Payton Pelke and Lane Albertson. CPU wrestlers who advanced to state are:Cole Whitehead (106), Caleb Fuessley (120) and Adam Hansen (138). Carter Weeks (126) is among 4 Vikings to advance to State. He, too was 2nd in Saturday's District meet. Luke Radeke was District Champ at 132.
