Sports : Girls Gold finishes Strong

Our 2018 girls golf team had a strong season. We finished with a record of 42-22 and we had an individual State qualifier. Our team also finished a strong academic year and was awarded an Excellence in Academic Achievement by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association. This team achieved a G.P.A. of 3.779. An award is presented to teams who achieve a 3.6 or better GPA in classroom work while actively participating in interscholastic athletics. These current students and recent graduates of Vinton-Shellsburg exemplify the excellence achieved by the young people of today and the future of tomorrow. To be recognized as All Conference Academic, she must be a junior or senior and have a 3.5 GPA or better; both Brandi Gerber and Rachel earned this honor. Congratulations to Brandi and Rachel. Please step forward: Rachel Tandy In addition, Rachel Tandy earned First Team Academic All State by two coaches organizations. To qualify Rachel had to have a GPA of 3.7 or better and 27 or higher ACT score. Rachel completed an outstanding high school golf career last season for Vinton-Shellsburg. She was three times All Conference and All District, and qualified for State three times. In addition, Rachel played her best 18 hole rounds ever at the 2018 Iowa Girls Golf 3A State Tournament. Rachel shot rounds of 80 and 82 at Coldwater Creek in Ames. She finished 5th at State and was named to the All Tournament Team. She was later recognized by the Des Moines Register which named her to the Golf All Iowa Spring Sports Team. Congratulation, Rachel Tandy on several outstanding achievements!
