What an exciting day it was for V-S girls golf! I was very proud of our team; we finished 5th of 13 teams. The only time these girls had played this course was in a practice round last week; it worked to their advantage to put in the extra time. Lillie Lamont was tied after 18 holes with three other participants; only the medalist honors are earned by a sudden death play off if there is a tie. All others are by card back. It took another six holes to determine the medalist, and in front of a large gallery, Lillie was successful. There was a lot of drama as often Lillie had to make a final putt to move forward. She had to overcome a penalty stroke on hole #5. Her team mates were all there to congratulate her and celebrate her skill and determination!
Congratulations to Lillie, Medalist and First Team All-Conference and Carli Lang, Second Team All-Conference. Medalist is a feat difficult to duplicate; in 1988 Anne Woodhouse White was WaMaC medalist and in 1995 Kristi Nosbish. Lillie also had low putts with 16 on the front nine and 15 on the back; her best putting effort this season.
Thursday the varsity is scheduled to play at Prairie for their annual invitational with a noon start. Saturday varsity plays in the South Tama Invitational at the Tama course with a 9 a.m. start. These are both 18 hole meets.
