With the Vinton pool still down, Williamsburg graciously offered to host the meet instead of canceling it so VSU seniors Chelsee Tharp and Lauren Upmeyer could still have their Senior Night. The Raiders played the role of host very well - putting up streamers, posters and writing notes to the VSU team Thursday night. They've become our sister team - we always enjoy swimming with Williamsburg.

In the end, it was another close meet, with Williamsburg edging out VSU by just 6 points in the team standings. But there were still bright spots in the night. VSU won 2 of 3 relays, and 6 of 8 individual events. Clarissa Carolan is hitting her stride at a great time of the season - dropping 2.5 seconds off her best Individual Medley and 1.5 seconds off her best 100 Backstroke time, winning both events by 4 seconds each. Carlie Spore continues to drop big chunks of time in her 500 Freestyle, down more than 30 seconds from her first attempt at the event this season. Freshman Lauren Moore has also posted some increasingly strong times lately - cutting 3 seconds in her 100 Freestyle and touching out her opponent by .22 seconds for 3rd place in the 100 Backstroke.
A fun way to end the regular season, the popular t-shirt relay was revisited. The 2 teams combined to make relays of both VSU and Williamsburg members, in which girls would swim in and then exchange baggy t-shirts between swimmers. Strategies were fine-tuned this go-around, which made for a fun relay to swim and to watch! Click to view Video courtesy of Ashley Hesson
We have a full week of practices now leading up to our district meet at LinnMar on Saturday, Nov 2. These girls have sacrificed a great deal of extra time to be in the pool this season. The school has been very supportive - helping to line up pools, buses, and drivers to get practices in. Districts should prove to be an exciting meet!
