GRINNELL - Coach Rob Levis' Vinton-Shellsburg/CPU swimmers had a big day Saturday as they brought home a fifth-place finish from the rugged Grinnell Invitational.
VS/CPU finished with 187 points for the day, and were led by some solid top 8 finishes. Carter Kirtz finished second in the 100 breaststroke in time of 1:04.05, and he was also part of the third place 200 medley relay team with Bradyn Schlief, Issac Allsup and Cyrus Elwick. Allsup was sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.49 and seventh in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.63. Elwick was seventh in the 50 freestyle in 23.71 and eighth in the 100 freestyle in 53.71. Elwick, Allsup, Schlief and Kirtz were also eighth in the 400 freestyle relay. The VS/CPU swimmers will be in action Tuesday night at Williamsburg, then again Friday at Decorah.
