"It was a weird game...there was no flow to it."

Those were the words of Vinton-Shellsburg boys' basketball coach Joe Johnson after his Vikings dropped a 44-40 decision to Williamsburg Tuesday night at the Garrison Fieldhouse.

The Vikes trailed 11-9 after one period and were within one in the last minute of the half, but a pair of Raider treys upped the margin to eight at intermission, 25-17.

But the Vikings fought back and with 27 seconds to go, they had the ball with a chance to tie it as Williamsburg led 42-39. The Raiders fouled Jose Wilson who hit one of two, but the visitors got the rebound and scored a late shot to bring the final margin to four.

CJ Rickels -- despite spending a third of the game on the bench with foul trouble -- led the Vikings with 16, while Sam Griffith added 10. David Lapan-Islas added five, Sam Moen three and Wilson, Derron Hughes and Elijah Kalous two each.

The Vikings will be on the road Friday night to take on Independence, before coming back to the Fieldhouse next week for home games with Clear Creek-Amana and Center Point-Urbana.
