Mary Umbarger is 74 years old from Keystone Iowa. She was a nurse back in the day and would travel with her husband when he was in the Vietnam war.

After the war, they came back home and did all of the activities that the couple enjoyed doing together and was living life. Mary and her husband Tom use to participate in the demolition derby way back in the day (the late 60s) and then stopped because they started a family.

Tom became very sick and Mary stopped doing everything and took care of her husband until the day he passed. Her husband has been gone for 13 years now. During those 13 years, she became a scrapper and took care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the last couple of years, there has been a lot of sicknesses that affected her and she has proven all the doctors wrong. She is now one healthy 74-year-old lady.

She wants to live life again and show everyone that even at an old age you can still do anything! She participated in the Benton County Demolition derby in honor of her husband. The couple had always planned that when they got old they would do another one.

Mary WON her demo and it was all for her and her husband. With the help of her grandson and nephew, they helped to build her car.

You can look for Mary on September 4th where she will compete again at the Benton County Speedway!
