Despite injury and illness, the Stormin' Vikings managed to turn in a solid performance Saturday at the Tiger Invitational in Grinnell. Down five of their 18 swimmers, and a couple others slowed by injury, VS/CPU managed a respectable 6th out of 9 teams and only four points behind Muscatine. Second-ranked Linn-Mar finished first by a considerable margin over Indianola and Ottumwa.

Ian Allsup continued to excel with a second in the 50 free and first in the 200 free. Wesley Farrell finished 6th in the 200 and 4th in the back. Other individual point scorers included Brayden Beck 11th in the 50 free at 25.53, Broden Farrell with 7th in the 100 free on a new personal best 55.49, freshman Andrew Allsup 12th in his first ever 500, Aleric Weber 7th and Hunter Kempton 15th in the 100 back and Ryan Williams 12th in the 100 breast.

The 200 free relay of Broden and Wesley Farrell, Brayden Beck and Ian Allsup finished 6th in a season best time but were less than one second out of 2nd in a very tight heat.

A lot of new faces saw some significant time drops. Junior James DeSmet already had his 50 time down in the 25s. Freshman Cole Rilling dropped 5 seconds in the 50 free and 11 seconds in the 100 free and fellow Freshman Trey Dooley made his varsity debut with a solid performance in the 50 Free (30.36). In all the team registered 31 new best times on the day.

The team is back in action Tuesday at The Raider Invitational in Williamsburg and then Friday in Decorah where they will also face Mason City and Waterloo.
