Results from Friday night at Decorah. The Stormin' Vikings made the long bus ride to Decorah Friday night and made it worth the trip. Despite being in the midst of a grueling stretch, and with only eight swimmers available, they still managed a second place finish behind a very strong Decorah team and ahead of Grinnell, Waterloo and Mason City. It's been a busy week. The guys are swimming tired and sore right now. Last Saturday they swam at the 10 team Grinnell invite finishing 6th in a field that included Linn-Mar, Indianola, Muscatine and Ottumwa. The team just missed fourth. Then on Tuesday, there was a trip to Williamsburg for an invitational that included Oskaloosa. The team had a great night there, winning all three relays and 6 of 11 events in total. But with the invitational meet format, allowing 12 place scoring despite only three teams participating, the team just didn't have enough people in the water and finished a close second. Senior Wes Farrell led the way with four gold medals on the night as part of the 200 and 400 Free Relays and winning the 200 Free and 100 Back. Last night it was Decorah. A long bus ride and tired guys but the team swam hard. There were a number of improvements but largely the times were a bit off. The busy period continues with another meet Monday at Marshalltown with Grinnell and Newton as well. That will be four meets in 10 days. After that the team will have a few hard days of practice and then a well-earned break for Christmas. After the holidays meets will resume with a home meet Jan 4th against Decorah.
