Sports : 4th Annual Nathan's Miles Glow Fun Run Draws 120 Participants for a Night of Fun

The Kids Glow Run kicked off the night at the 4th Annual Nathan's Miles Fun Run...bringing smiles to the children running!

This past Saturday evening, the 4th Annual Nathan's Miles Glow Fun Run 5K brought together families, friends, and community members for a glowing night of fun and support. With 120 participants, the event proved once again to be a great, affordable family event, celebrating the life of Nathan Hesson and raising money for the Nathan's Miles Foundation, which provides scholarships to Vinton-Shellsburg High School seniors.

The night kicked off with a Kids Glow Run at 6:15 p.m., followed by the 5K starting at 7:00 p.m. Participants of all ages took to the trail, which was lit along with the glowing trail but with glow sticks and neon gear, creating a festive atmosphere under the evening sky. This was not a timed event, and the focus was on fun and enjoyment rather than competition, with no prizes awarded for placement.

The event was open to everyone, including several out-of-towners who had come to Vinton to use the trail without realizing the glow run was happening. Runners from Cedar Rapids, Marion, and Bettendorf were among the visitors who stumbled upon the event. Their surprise participation highlighted how the trail system draws people into the community, showcasing Vinton as a welcoming and vibrant place to enjoy outdoor activities.

Thanks to the registrations and generous donations, Nathan's Miles Foundation was able to fund two more scholarships for Vinton-Shellsburg graduating seniors, continuing a tradition of giving back to the community. Last year, the foundation provided scholarships to two students, and this year's success ensures that more students will benefit from the event's proceeds.

It was a great night for all involved, with glowing smiles, good times, and community spirit shining throughout the evening. The Nathan's Miles Glow Fun Run continues to be a cherished annual event, combining fitness, fun, and philanthropy in a way that honors Nathan's memory and positively impacts local students.
