Sports : Another W for Vikings; track team wins at Benton

The Vinton-Shellsburg track team scored another team victory, winning at Benton Community on Friday. First-place winners for the Vikings included: 4x 200 M Relay (Gunner Tranel, Kelyn Rickels, Chase Overton Darrin Charlier) Wyatt Lyons, 1600M and 800M 110 M Shuttle Hurdle Relay (Nolan Edwards, Ryan Webster, Darrin Charlier, David Richter) "It was another tough night for conditions," said coach Aric Chvala. "Thankfully our kids pushed through them and were able to come out on top." After Benton did well in early events, the Vikings had to work hard to come back, said the coach. "We really had to close the meet strong. Benton got out to a good lead and really put the pressure on us. We knew we had to come on strong to win and fortunately our kids did a good job of stepping up. I really like the way that we are competing, it is going to be a fun end of the season coming up." During a school assembly on Monday morning, Coach Chvala told the student body that the track team had beaten 40 other teams in its four consecutive wins in the past two weeks.
