Sports : Alumni football game tonight: Vikings ready, says captain

Although the 2012 Vinton-Shellsburg Alumni Football Team includes a member of the Class of 1976 (Gary Garwood), overall the team is younger than last year's, says Captain Randy Scheel (class of 1983).

The team is better-prepared last year, with younger, faster players and two quarterbacks, said Scheel.

"After 1976 and 1983, there are many years before the next player," said Scheel.

The Viking alumni kick off against Center Point-Urbana alumni at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 and are available from a team member before the game or at the gate.

Most members were present for a practice on Thursday, where some teammates had met on Wednesday to mow and paint the lines of the field.

They ran through their plays after a warm-up session.
