After mother nature's win the past two weeks, the Benton County Speedway was able to return to racing action Sunday, August 26th. The twice postponed Alzheimer's Awareness night, coupled with Halloween in August, raised over $1,200 for the local Alzheimer's Association. A special thank you is sent to everyone who participated in bidding on silent auction items, and those who donated items for the auction, including: Brian Parr, the local Alzheimer's Support group, the Palace Theater, Boomtown, Frontier Natural Products & Aura Cacia, Vinton Parks & Recreation Department, Tom & Carilyn Engledow, Albert & Lynette Muschaweck, Steve & Jayma Runyan, IMCA Racing, G&G Auto, Koop's Automotive, Dan Engledow and Tina Hasselmann. Money raised from the RU Racing Late Model Simulator was also included in the donation to the Association. Sponsors of the RU Racing simulator were Plumb Supply Company and the Hasselmann Family, in memory of Marilyn Hasselmann. With bicycle donations from the race car drivers and the hard work and dedication of Janice Smith, a few lucky kids club members were excited to go home with a new bike and back-to-school backpacks.
