Scott Merchant said his original goal with the gold Spirit Towels was to have enough to give to every student at Vinton-Shellsburg High School.

"We've been trying to encourage more students to attend the games," said Merchant this morning.

But the sponsors with whom Merchant shared his ideas wanted to do even more; they have paid for 1,000 towels, which will be distributed both to students and to adults attending tonight's game.

The Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings play at home for the first time this Friday, as they host the South Tama Trojans.

The Vikings and Trojans both enter the game with 1-0 records, as the Vikings defeated Benton Community, 48-0, and S. Tama defeated Nevada, 16-6, in Week 1 action.

Vikings fans are encouraged to wear black, and 1,000 gold spirit towels will te passed out to the audience. Next Friday, Sept. 7, the Vikings will host Oelwein on Neon Night. See that Neon Night story HERE.
