The Vinton-Shellsburg Cross Country teams finished fourth (boys) and sixth (girls) at Grinnell on Tuesday evening. Lily Horst led the VS girls, finishing 4th, while Ricky Jeray was the first Viking runner to cross the finish line, in 19th place overall.
"The heat was on," says coach John Fraier. "The competition was fierce. We finished strong and we will welcome the cooler temps this weekend at Benton. It was a very tough field with many returnees from the state meet. It's great to see who is back and what the western area has to offer."
Coach Fraier said, "I am very proud of our runners who took it upon themselves to represent their school in adverse conditions. Most athletes are becoming consistent and showing the competition what we have to offer."
