Welcome to another episode of Views from the Grandstands. Before I get started I would like to thank all of the past and present military personnel and their families for the sacrifices they make to ensure freedom for those of us that live in the best country in the World, the United States of America. Onto the report. 93 cars checked in tonight to do battle on Cassill Motors night. The first feature was the IMCA Hobby Stocks with 22 cars starting the main event. The first caution flew before the first lap was complete as Steve Higham spun in the middle of turns one and two and collected a few cars. The cars that were involved included Justin Stander, Mike Wilson, Brad Forbes, Scott Pippert, and August Bach with Bach getting towed into the pits. The involved cars all had to restart at the rear of the field. This cleared the way for Adam Streeter to take the early lead. With 2 laps in the books, Wes Stanek spun in turn 3 and was clipped by the Russell Damme, Jr car. Two laps later Vince Buchholz made his way by Streeter and went on to score the victory. Kyle Parizek finished second with Streeter, Eric Stanton, and Rod Grother the unofficial top 5. Heat races were won by Parizek, Stanton, and Streeter. Next up was the IMCA Sport Compacts with 18 cars on hand. Steve Meidke was unable to start due to having issues during hot laps tonight. On the first lap the red flag waved as Dustin Mangrich had a hard barrel roll in the middle of turns one and two. Mangrich was not hurt in the accident as the cage did a great job of protecting the driver. Bryce Bailey took the early lead from that point, but was passed by Nathan Chandler on lap 5. Chandler would go on to take the checkers followed by Bailey, Dallas Chandler, Merv Chandler, and Brett Vanous. Heat race winners were Gary Peiffer, Justin Wacha, and D Chandler. The third feature of the night was the IMCA Sport Mods. 27 cars were on hand and so it took one "B" feature to set the field. 25 cars started the feature with a couple cars collected in turn 3 after a spin. The cars involved were: Ken Kositsky, Jason Doyle, Drew Fish, and Tyler Droste. Kyle Olson took the early lead then. Most of the field was working the low side with Austin Kaplan riding the high line. Kaplan made his way by Olson with 4 laps to go. Kurt Hogan then passed Kaplan on the last corner to take the very exciting win over Kaplan. Olson finished in third with Joel Rust and Danny Dvorak rounding out the top 5. Heat races were won by Tim Swope, Olson, and Coby Heishman. Kaplan won the B main. IMCA Stock Cars were up next with 10 cars on hand tonight. Justin Temeyer took the early lead from his outside row 3 starting spot as everyone was running the bottom line around the track. Damon Murty made his way under Temeyer with handful of laps to go. Murty would take the win with Temeyer in second. Phil Holtz, Norman Chesmore, and Scooter Dulin were the unoffical top 5. The heat race was won by Curtis Roster. The final feature on the track were the "Knights of Thunder" IMCA Modifieds. 16 cars started the feature. Patrick Flannagan took the early lead, but then spun out in turn 4 before completing a lap. This collected the cars of Brian Krall and Joe Docekal. Jerry Luloff was the leader from that point until Richie Gustin got by Luloff. The next caution would fly for Tony Olson spinning in turn two after some contact between himself and Mark Schulte. While the field was being lined up Olson was "discussing weekend plans with Schulte". Both drivers were sent to the rear, Olson for bringing out the caution and Schulte for rough driving, which seems strange when you are accused of rough driving with a car behind you. The checkers would then fly with about 5 laps left as a light shower passed over the track with more rain nearby. Gustin took the rain shortened victory with Scott Hogan finishing second. Max Corporon, Luloff, and JD Auringer was the unofficial top 5. Heat race were won by Schulte and Flannagan. My driver of the week is Vince Bucholz. Vince has been around for quite awhile, but now he has some better equipment so I expect to see him a few more times in victory lane bvefore the year in through. My tough luck driver of the week goes to Gary Peiffer who blew the motor in his Sport Compact while making a run for 3rd place. Thanks again for reading the weekly recap and it will be few weeks before I get back out to Vinton to recap the races. Keep the shiny side up and have a good week.
