It was just the fifth frame of a seven-inning contest, but the game was on the line as Viking pitcher Kody Seaton faced the next Mustang batter.
The score was tied at two, and the home team had runners on second and third with nobody out.
Seaton responded to the challenge by striking out that batter, and then retiring the next eight Mustangs. He struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh.
Nolan Edwards scored the winning run in the top of the seventh. He was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a Clint Ferguson single.
The 3-2 win gave the Vikings a sweep in the double-header in Independence.
The Vikings had a much easier time in Game 1. The offense gave pitcher Taylor Leyden all of the run support he would need in the top of the first, scoring 5 en route to a 10-4 victory.
Leyden pitched a complete game, and helped his own cause by hitting a solo home run.
