The Women, Food & Agriculture Network (WFAN) is excited to announce its Women Caring for the Land program is going virtual. Women who own or manage farmland are invited to participate in this free online conservation meeting focused on soil health on March 3 at 9 a.m. CT.

Coordinated by the WFAN and co-sponsored through the Indian Creek Watershed Management Authority, this event is an opportunity for women landowners in Iowa to learn among their peers.

"Roughly half of Iowa farmland is owned or co-owned by women," said Jennifer Fencl, Environmental Services Director of East Central Iowa Council of Governments. "WFAN knows that these landowners are interested in conservation, but often aren't sure what to do. This event gives women the opportunity to take in information they need and feel empowered to do something with it."

Attendees of the March 3 meeting will learn how to assess the health of their soils, and improve it with cover crops and other conservation best practices. The meeting will include:

* Presentations by resource professionals

* A panel of landowner women discussing their conservation practices and working with tenants

* Break-out rooms for participants to discuss and get to know one another

The meeting will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. CT on Wednesday, March 3rd via Zoom. The meeting is free but does require pre-registration. Registration details are available at http://www.indiancreekwma.org/. Questions can be directed to Wren Almitra, wren@wfan.org.

For over a decade, the Women, Food & Agriculture Network has organized fun and informative meetings for women landowners. We aim to provide women with the information, connections and encouragements they need through informal peer-to-peer discussions facilitated by resource professionals. We work with landowners to discuss their land management goals and how they can take care of their land.
