Wendling Quarries was awarded seven different Good Neighbor Awards recently during the 77th Annual Convention of the Iowa Limestone Producers Association.

In 2020 Wendling received a Community Involvement award for donating material, along with delivery to the City of Springville to update their city cemetery. Upgrades included 10' concrete drives with river gravel shoulders.

Wendling also received a Good Housekeeping award for converting green space into beneficial prairie pollinator habitat, that is low maintenance shelter full of butterflies, bee, and hummingbirds among others. To date, they have planted areas around their DeWitt office, their Behr Quarry scalehouse and the Olson Sandpit scalehouse.

In 2021 Wendling received a Community Involvement award for "Touch A Truck" event which was a fund raiser for the Clinton County Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

They also won two Outreach awards. Drew Frey, Wendling Quarries Development Manager, hosted a field trip to their Bowser Quarry. Dr. Emily Walsh from Cornell college visited with the Earth Resource Sustainability class. The second Outreach award was for John Tuthill, Wendling Quarries Property Manager, taught a group of high school students from Center Point Urbana School District about the hydrology, geology, mine/quarry industry and all the many uses of our products.

In addition to all of the company awards, John Tuthill also was awarded the "I Make A Difference" award. John has led their efforts to be a good neighbor in the many communities where they operate. Throughout his career he has successfully partnered with numerous conservation groups including the Iowa DNR, Pheasants Forever, IDALS, and Clinton County Conservation. He also serves on various boards and committees outside the office.

Members of the Iowa Limestone Producers Association produce and sell more than 30 million tons of limestone every year in Iowa. Careful management of these valuable natural resources is vital to our economy, our environment, and our future.
