Vinton Today

In this world of technology, finding out about a new website through my inbox, is almost like finding a new catalog in the mailbox.

Lloyd Tietz of Vinton, sent in a note about a handy little website that he's put together, it's found here (www.vinton-ia.com), that has all of the Vinton businesses broken down into categories, and also includes an online phone book.

There's other categories on this site that would indeed be useful if you are wanting to find someone in a certain field of work.

Check it out and bookmark it, much easier than finding the phonebook!

V April 13, 2012, 12:46 pm The idea of privacy, in my opinion, is pretty much gone. I only wish that there was a way to control your information, but there isn\'t. I live in the country and it bugs me to no end that while I THINK we are secluded, I see me on Google earth, not sure what happened to that right to privacy thing I used to hear about, but it\'s gone...sigh

Every phone book page has META ROBOTS NOINDEX code in it telling search engines not to index it.
If you type your name in some "people search" sites you not only get your address and phone number, you will see your age and your kids names and there ages too.

SQ April 12, 2012, 9:29 pm To Mark W I hate to break this to you, but if you\'re listed in the telephone book, which you obviously are, then you are already out there on the Internet for anyone to find. Right now I can go to several sites for looking up telephone numbers and put in your name, if I knew what W stood for, and could have not only your telephone number, but your address in seconds. If I knew your last name I could look up exactly where you live and find out how much your property costs. The person who put the phone book on the web site used the Vinton telephone directory, which you obviously are listed in. He put it up there for the convenience of people like myself who cannot read a normal print telephone directory, but with the aid of computerized speech I can access the telephone book and information about all of the Vinton Businesses on line and have it all read to me. As for the \"amateurish formatting,\" that, too, was done so that persons with partial vision or BLIND people using computerized screen reader speech could access the site easier. Maybe you should think more of others before you go criticizing the layout of a web site, or how simply something is done; there just might be a good reason!

Second, it is already out of date as my phone number is wrong. Who is maintaining it?

Third, It looks very amateurish. Tables? Get real.

Lastly, People freak out with privacy concerns when their phone number is listed on Facebook. This site has NO security and can be seen by anyone. A simple Google Search will give someone your phone AND address. Two basic items needed in identity theft. I would recommend this site be taken down or at the very least the private home phone numbers.
