The Vinton-Shellsburg High School choir is starting out this year in brand new choir robes due to the generosity of many persons, organizations and businesses in Vinton and the surrounding areas, near and far. For decades VSHS singers have worn a collection of used and mismatched graduation gowns and choir robes. This is the first time that there will be new robes in the history of Vinton-Shellsburg; nobody can remember the last time the school purchased new robes. The first time the public will see the students wearing them will be at The Fall Choral Preview concert on Tuesday, October 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. All three high school choirs will be featured and then come together to perform en masse music that was performed duringtheir Florida tour this past summer. Due to a back-order, the robes did not reach VSHS until after the last concert of May. Last year's choir members, however, did have a chance to put them on for a photo session. The Vinton-Shellsburg New Century Fine Arts Club wants to thank all of those who donated to the successful fund drive for the new choir robes for Vinton-Shellsburg High School. The $18,000 goal was quickly met thanks to the generosity of so many.
