Three Suggestions for Young Readers Easy Readers Picture books Reviewed by Connie Bennett Since these books are all short, sweet, and perfect for this time of year, I've included them in a group review of wonderful stories that you will want to read aloud, or have read to you by your early reader! The first suggestion is Go To Sleep, Groundhog! by Judy Cox. Published in 2004 by Holiday House New York, this book's setting is the Autumn outdoors, specifically between Columbus Day and Groundhog Day. Young Groundhog is unable to sleep, and learns a great deal about the holidays he usually sleeps through, as he discovers many things he has never seen before. Charming! Next up: In this gentle rhyming story, author Pamela Duncan Edwards and a friendly owl take a youngster on a nighttime flight to see the creatures he has only heard about. Read along and enjoy the tale of things that happen While the World is Sleeping! Published 2020 by Orchard Books New York. Last, and my possible favorite, A Home In The Barn by Margaret Wise Brown, has me wondering how on earth I missed this one! In the tradition of Goodnight, Moon, this work also lulls the listener into a peaceful sleep with its lovely pictures and sweet lyrical story. The reader can feel the soothing comfort of the barn as the various animals find their way into its warmth as the cool Fall night approaches. Harper Collins Publishing; 2018. All of these wonderful books are available at the Vinton Public Library.
