Greenhand Fire Up

On October 9, 2013 the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter had nineteen members attend the annual district Greenhand Fire Up at Wapsie Valley High School. The word “Greenhand” stands for first year member in FFA, though the Fire Up is not restricted to only first years. While you are there you are divided into groups based on numbers on your name tag. You then go around to a variety of classes and sessions, learning about FFA. The classes that the members went to this year were CDE’s, SAE’s, Communication, Leadership, FFA Knowledge, and then they had a supper break. The point of Greenhand Fire Up is to get new members meeting new people, and getting them more informed about what FFA is as well as what they can do in FFA. Overall the members had a good night and are looking forward to future activities in FFA.
