JOB DESCRIPTION –COUNTY YOUTH COORDINATOR 10-7-2016
I. JOB DESCRIPTION: This position will work in a team environment with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Benton County Extension Council and staff to provide day to day leadership and management for Benton County 4-H and K-12 outreach programs, positive youth development efforts, and to provide education in the 4-H priority topics. The position requires extensive knowledge of ISUEO, 4-H, skills in written and oral communication, ability to deliver programs on a wide variety of topics, dependability and confidentiality.
The objectives of the position are:
· Connecting ISU to every young person in Benton County through 4-H priority topics of STEM, healthy living, citizenship and leadership, and communication and the arts.
· Evolving our offerings and methods to reflect changes in youth and society so youth remain actively engaged through a continuum of experiences (short to long-term). Delivery methods may include afterschool programs, camps, clubs, events and school programs.
· Developing partnerships with schools, youth organizations and agencies, businesses, and individuals to deliver high quality curriculum developed by ISU, other Land Grant Universities and 4-H, to Iowa’s youth.
· Other activities as assigned
II. QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT
· Associates degree, required. Bachelor’s degree preferred—Education related field preferred or equivalent experience
· Previous experience working with youth
· Excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills-written and verbal, computer skills
· Demonstrated interest in youth and volunteer leadership, ability to work with a team
· Capable of delegating tasks and coordinating volunteer efforts, conflict management skills
· Valid drivers’ license and reliable transportation
· Employment contingent on successful screening in Child Protection Safety Program
· Some evenings and weekends required
· Ability to lift 20 pounds
III. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES
A. Program Management
1. Maintain appropriate records and prepare reports as required (monthly reports, 4-H Statistical, 4-H publications, etc.)
2. Provide leadership for volunteer management system
3. The planning and organizing of the Benton County 4-H/FFA Fair activities as they relate to the 4-H and K-12 Outreach programs
4. Lead and support the 4-H and K-12 Outreach program areas of community club, special interest, school enrichment, camps, and others as assigned
5. Order necessary materials and supplies in a timely manner
6. Plan, promote, and implement 4-H and K-12 Outreach activities
7. Collaborate with 4-H Youth Development Program Specialists to implement programs in Benton County
8. Evaluate the 4-H program offerings to determine value
9. Ensure policy compliance with Iowa 4-H and ISUEO for all youth programs
B. Youth Development
1. Organize and conduct youth educational activities
2. Encourage development of life skills among program participants
3. Determine age appropriate activities and events for participants
4. Guide volunteers and staff in maintaining positive youth development practices in all 4-H, youth activities and events
C. Communication and Member Client Support
1. Maintain correspondence with 4-H members, volunteers, Extension support staff and the public through newsletters, news releases, and written correspondence
2. Schedule and facilitate meetings with club leaders and act as a liaison between Extension and Benton County Fair Board. Provide leadership to assist them in planning and carrying out group activities
3. Coordinate forms and correspondence for area and state events and opportunities
4. Develop or maintain social media presence
5. Market K-12 youth outreach programs, volunteer needs to garner interest in 4-H program
6. Communicate value and impacts of 4-H and youth programs to stakeholders, volunteers and public
D. Professional Volunteer Development
1. Coordinate leadership training for youth and leaders
2. Recruit and screen volunteers for various roles and activities
3. Assist, coordinate, and support volunteers in conducting assigned tasks
4. Develop plans to build volunteer base
E. Pertinent Skills.
1. Ability to work in a team atmosphere as a productive member of the ISUEO team.
2. Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter
3. Provide information and assist in recruiting audiences for activities and events
4. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other groups, agencies, organizations, and schools
F. Resource Development
1. Leverage partnerships to secure public/private program support
2. Ability to secure grant funding for 4-H and K-12 programming
