Et cetera What We're Reading: Digital Minimalism

I recently read 'Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World' by Cal Newport. Published in 2019, the book is full of recommendations from the author on how you can (and why you should) declutter your digital life and intentionally and deliberately quiet the noise that often accompanies current technology. Newport draws from a wide range of sources, including industry whistleblowers, addiction professionals, and scientific journals, to support his theories on the benefits of minimalism. He recommends countering the distracting and rapid-fire whistles and notifications of the digital world with slower and more meaningful alternatives such as solitude, , face-to-face conversation, reclaimed leisure time and more.

I found this book to be an intelligently written balm that confirmed much of what I already feel about the current state of our digital age, while giving me a fresh perspective and feelings of empowerment surrounding how I spend my time and energy. I would recommend it to readers interested in looking closer at the impact of smartphone technology on our lives.

'Digital Minimalism' currently has 4.05/5 stars on goodreads.com.

Happy reading,

Kelly
