Salem Methodist Church, Van Horne, will serve a soup luncheon from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, October 9.Join us for homemade soup, bread & desserts! Your choice of Chili, Potato or Chicken Noodle!Free-will offerings support Salem UMC's missions & ministries. All are welcome!The church is located at 205 3rd Ave. in Van Horne.
The Newhall American Legion and Auxiliary will have a smorgasbord and salad bar. The event will be held Sunday, October 9, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Newhall American Legion Hall.The menu includes Roast beef, Old fashioned ham, and a salad bar.Adults $12.00Children 5-12 $6.00under 5 free.
The Vinton Aquatic Club will be holding a multi-family garage sale to support the club, The sale will be held this Saturday, October 1, from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at 1209 A Ave. in Vinton. Some of the items so far include: Kids air hockey table, air fryer, Roomba, kids kitchenette, kids slide, balance bike, kids bikes, indoor trampolines, outdoor play house, foot bath, rain barrel, baby clothing and diapers, sports gear, 40 gallon animal tanks.
The Hannen Lake Park chili cook-off will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, at White Oak Shelter, Hannen Lake Park, 1949 Benton Iowa Road, Blairstown.Chili cook-off registration will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon, with judging held at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per recipe; limit one entry per person. Grand prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places and include two weeks of camping, a Hannen Lake Cedar Cabin weekend getaway and one weekend of camping.
Homecoming soup supper at First Lutheran Church, 1523 Sunset Drive, Belle Plaine, will host a homecoming soup supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30.Chicken noodle soup, chili, Wisconsin cheese soup, bars, dinner rolls and lemonade, water and coffee will be served for a freewill donation. Proceeds will go to the Belle Plaine Area Ambulance Service.
On October 8th from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, Birds of a Feather VH will be hosting a Children's Fall Festival sponsored by the Van Horne Lions Club and many of our terrific local businesses. The games and prizes will be free. There will also have a pumpkin decorating contest (entry form is pictured). PLEASE NOTE REGISTRATIONS ARE NEEDED BY OCT 1. There are a number of divisions so all kids from K-12 can bring a decorated pumpkin.
Sunday, October 2, 8 AM to 1 PMNewhall Fire and First Responder FoundationBreakfast with the Newhall Fire Department will hold their annual Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, October 2nd from 8am till 1pm. The menu includes the following: Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Biscuits, and Gravy. Drinks-Coffee, Milk, and Orange Juice. The breakfast is free-will donation.
On Thursday, September 22, the George G. Lucky American Legion Post will hold a Tenderloin Dinner. The cost is $15.00. The menu includes Tenderloin, French Fries, Cole Slaw and a Dessert. The legion is located at 105 R Ave. in Vinton.
Saturday, October 8 there will be a Community Harvest Potluck and program at the Andersen Center Point Public Library community room, 720 Main St.Bring a covered dish and enjoy good company and good food at an old-fashioned potluck supper at 6 p.m. Drink and table service will be provided.Stay—or come only--for the free 7 p.m. program: “Tomorrow is Another Day,” by Marion historian Kathy Wilson.
On Friday, September 16, there will be a brief ceremony to honor POW/MIA Recognition Day. The ceremony will be hosted by the local VFW Post 8884.The ceremony will be at Veterans Memorial Park, Vinton, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
