Events and Activities : Experience the Magic of Christmas at the Tannenbaum Forest!

November 29-December 22, each Friday to Sunday, get ready to immerse yourself in the holiday spirit at the Amana Colonies' Tannenbaum Forest. This enchanting Christmas tradition transforms the Festhalle Barn into a winter wonderland brimming with holiday cheer.

Marvel at over 80 unique Christmas trees, each thoughtfully decorated by local businesses, organization, families and groups. From sparkling lights to creative ornaments, every tree tells its own story, making your visit both heartwarming and festive.

Don't miss Santa's Sleigh and festive photo spots, perfect for capturing cherished holiday memories with loved ones. At the heart of it all stands a breathtaking 17 foot German Christmas Pyramid, a symbol of holiday tradition and beauty that will leave you in awe.

Admission is free, but a freewill donation is encouraged to help the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital and local non-profits.

The location is 4707 220th Trail in Amana.

Note that the barn is not heated, so bundle up in you coziest winter attire to stay warm while enjoying the magical experience.

Amana Pickle Hunt

While visiting the Colonies during Tannenbaum Forest, don't miss the Amana Pickle Hunt! Inspired by the traditional German legend of the Christmas Pickle, the hunt invites you to search for pickle ornaments in local shops. According to legend, the pickle was hidden on the tree late on Christmas Eve, and the first child to find it on Christmas morning would receive an extra gift. In the Amana version, you'll search for pickle ornaments throughout the shops-fun for the whole family!
