Did you know that one in three Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime?
Last year, it is estimated that 145 people received a new cancer diagnosis in Benton County.
At the American Cancer Society, we're working to create a world with more birthdays - where cancer never steals another year from anyone's life. The Relay For Life of Benton County is one way you can help more people celebrate more birthdays.
If you want to form or join a team, contact Loretta Vogt, Blairstown. If you want to buy a luminary to honor or remember a friend or family member touched by cancer, contact Sally Donald, Van Horne. If you are a survivor,
contact Frieda Davis, Vinton, to join the celebration lap.
Frieda's email is:davisduo85@gmail.com
If you would like to sponsor a team or make a donation, contact Fran Magdefrau, Belle Plaine.
Remember: cancer does not discriminate and at the American Cancer Society neither do we. We fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer, in every community. We fight so one day no one has to face cancer. How will you help the 145 Benton County residents that received their diagnosis last year?
You are invited to join us on June 7 for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Benton County at Vinton-Shellsburg High School Track in Vinton. The event starts at 6 p.m. on Friday evening.
Your contribution to the Relay For Life of Benton County Sponsor will support American Cancer Society's goal to saves lives and creates more birthdays by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back. The money raised by the Relay For Life will help people in
Benton County by:
Providing access to the Cancer Resource Network - the 24-hour, 365 days a year service that is available to assist persons affected by cancer (patients and their caregivers). The services could include: relevant cancer information, transportation to and from treatment, a wig, a place to stay
when traveling for treatment, clinical trial matching service, or just someone to listen when someone does not know who to call.
Funding Research for early detection, prevention and treatment of cancer.
Currently in Iowa, over $6.9 million has been granted to researchers who are focused on targeted research areas with the potential to have the greatest impact in the fight against cancer.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a fundraising event that reaches into the communities of Benton County and brings together neighbors, friends, work associates, and families to celebrate those who have survived cancer and to remember those who have not.
