The Just US women’s leadership group in Vinton is bringing the American Library Association community read program  One Book, One Community  to Benton County!   The event was announced in conjunction with VGH’s movie night at Riverside Park during Vinton’s sesquicentennial celebration.

The book chosen is  We hope you like this song; an overly honest story about friendship, death and mixed tapes  by Bree Housley.    The book was chosen because it was written by an Iowan, (from Walcott, home of the world’s largest truck stop) and is very relatable to small town life.     An engaging and honest  memoir of Housley’s best friend Shelly, who died at 25 of pre-eclampsia, and of Housley’s efforts (along with her sister) to memorialize her friend by performing 52 resolutions, one each week, for a year, challenging their  introverted selves to be more like the extrovert that Shelly was.

The book is available for purchase at Cameron’s and Nature’s Corner as well as online (e-book versions available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble).   The Vinton Public Library is able to borrow the book from other libraries for a $2.00 shipping fee.   We hope that everyone who purchases a book, will pass it on to a friend and encourage them to join in the fun!

The  One Book, One Community  initiative will include many activities in keeping with the theme of the book and all community members are encouraged to take part in the fun!   More information can be found at  www.justusbc.home.blog.

The first event will be a community conversation about the book on Monday, October 21 at 7:00 pm at Tilford Elementary Auditorium in Vinton.
