The Benton County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with Supervisors Seeman, Tippett and Volz present. Chairman Seeman called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Benton County Service Center. Members of the public are invited to join in during open session or watch the livestream at https://www.youtube.com/bentoncountyiowa. Volz moved/Tippett seconded: To approve the Agenda. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Volz moved/Tippett seconded: To agree to allow ASAC (Area Substance of Abuse) to lease office space at the Benton County Service Center and to authorize a lease to be drafted with $850 a month rent. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Auditor Rippel explained the process after every election the Secretary of State chooses a random precinct from all 99 counties and the ballots have to be hand counted to match the machine count. Vinton 2 was the precinct selected and 101 ballots cast and the hand count matched exactly to the machine count with votes, write-ins, undervote and overvotes.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To acknowledge the successful Post Election Audit on the Vinton 2 precinct of the City/School Election held on November 4, 2025. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Gina Edler, Elections Deputy presented all the election results to read for the canvass and explained the process to the Board. There is a 4-way tie in Belle Plaine Ward 1, per Iowa Code 50.44 the winner for that race is decided by the Board of Supervisors draw one shall publicly draw one of such names.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To agree the variance of spelling for Meagan, Meaghan, Megan and Meghan were all the same for Meagan Hunter to receive 10 write in votes. Tippett,
Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
Tippett moved/Volz seconded: To approve Resolution #25-91, Canvass the City/School Election held on November 4, 2025. Tippett, Seeman and Volz voting aye. Motion carried.
RESOLUTION #25-91
WHEREAS, the CITY/SCHOOL ELECTION was held as prescribed by law on November 4, 2025, and:
WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors and ex officio Board of Canvassers have canvassed the vote of said election in accordance with §43.49 and §50.24 of the Code of Iowa, now therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned members of the Board of Supervisors and ex officio Board of Canvassers of Benton County, Iowa, do hereby certify the following TURNOUT REPORT and RESULTS in the CITY/SCHOOL ELECTION, held on November 4, 2025, and that no obvious clerical errors were identified during the canvass.
3,171 people voted at the polls on election day.
164 absentee ballots were accepted for counting.
One (1) provisional ballots were accepted for counting (included in absentee total).
A total of 3,336 people voted.
