State Treasurer Roby Smith announced that Iowa’s ISave 529 plan has officially surpassed $7 billion in total assets under management, establishing a landmark in helping families across the state invest in education and future opportunities.
“This milestone is a testament to the commitment Iowa families have made to planning ahead for the next generation,” said State Treasurer Smith. “Reaching $7 billion in assets reflects not only strong investment performance, but a growing understanding of the importance of saving early for education.”
Treasurer Smith highlighted the milestone at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa talking about how ISave 529 funds can be used for things like community college, trade school and even certificate programs.
“Community colleges like Western Iowa Tech are a critical piece of Iowa’s workforce pipeline, and ISave 529 is helping more and more families take advantage of those opportunities,” said Treasurer Smith. “From welding to nursing, the trades and so much more, Iowans should know that by investing in an ISave 529 account they could be investing in their child’s future education.
Iowa taxpayers invested in the ISave 529 plan can deduct up to $6,100 in contributions from their 2026 taxes. Since the deduction applies to each beneficiary account, a family of four can maximize the state tax deduction when both parents open accounts for their two children – increasing the deduction to $24,400 (4 x $6,100) in 2026.
