As part of the National Rural Health Day celebration, Virginia Gay Hospital today announced it has been recognized with a 2022 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Outcomes. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance (e.g., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes and Patient Perspective.

Did you know that ASAC's prevention team offers naloxone (Narcan) training for groups or individuals? Naloxone is the best way to assist someone experience an opioid overdose and can save a life. ASAC's Prevention Specialists recommend that anyone who uses, or is close to someone who uses, illicit or prescribed opioids be trained to the use of naloxone.

Miller announces Iowa to receive $19.9 million in Walmart opioid settlement

Attorney General Tom Miller announced today that he and a coalition of attorneys general have reached a $3.1 billion settlement with Walmart to resolve allegations that the company contributed to the opioid crisis by failing to appropriately oversee the dispensing of opioids at its stores. The settlement will provide more than $19.9 million to Iowa and will require significant improvements in how Walmart's pharmacies handle opioids.

ASAC Youth Day Treatment Services

Leadership at the Area Substance Abuse Council (ASAC), serving Linn, Benton, Jones, Jackson, Dubuque, Delaware and Clinton counties is excited to announce a change in Youth Services programming effective 12.1.2022. ASAC will be opening the SETH Program (Strength, Empowerment and Teens Health), in honor of Seth Johnston.ASAC has been providing Youth Residential programming since 1984.

Participation in Take Back Day helps reduce opioid addiction, overdose deaths

  Attorney General Tom Miller encourages Iowans to help curb the state’s opioid epidemic by participating in National Prescription Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 29.  The National Take Back program provides opportunities twice a year for Iowans to properly dispose of unused medications. Since 2016, Iowans have disposed of more than 186,800 pounds – or 93 tons – of prescription medication at Take Back Day events.
