Sponsors Say Thanks to Iowa's Direct Care Workers for Their Invaluable ContributionsThe first 275 direct care workers (DCWs) and Iowa family caregivers to register will be able to attend free of charge the Iowa CareGivers' Conference, "Winners at Caregiving, Come on Down," Oct. 10-11 at the FFA Enrichment Center on the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) campus in Ankeny, Iowa. The no-cost registration is thanks to CareSource, DMACC, and Principal Foundation, (Iowa CareGivers' Jackpot conference sponsors), along with 57 other corporate, state, and individual sponsors. At least 25 additional registrations will be available at $55 per person. This 26th annual two-day conference is designed for DCWs who include certified nurse aides, home care aides, direct support professionals, hospice aides, patient care technicians, family caregivers and others who provide direct care in-homes, institutions, and community-based settings. The game show-themed conference features an exceptional lineup of speakers and educators presenting on topics tailored to help DCWs hone their professional skills, enhance their personal growth and self-care and network with peers. Iowa's essential caregivers will also be recognized during a reception on the 10th."When we come to these conferences, you feel like… I don't know how much more I can take of this and then after the classes, you're pumped and ready to get back in it and go," said Lavada Messerschmitt, a Home Care Aide in Keokuk County. "It helps and the support Iowa CareGivers provides is just tremendous…Iowa CareGivers is one of the best things that can happen to you. I look forward to it every year!"  "With the workforce shortage and high turnover of DCWs at an all-time high, we must support this essential workforce. Over 80 percent of past attendees say their participation in the conference contributes to the likelihood that they will remain in the field of direct care," said Pam Biklen, Iowa CareGivers Program Director.  "We are extremely grateful to DCWs and to all our sponsors."Early registration is highly recommended.
