Kenneth Kasper has been selected as the new VSHS assistant principal.
A Forest City alternative high school director with years of coaching experience and a background in science education will become the new high school assistant principal and alternative school director for Vinton-Shellsburg.
Kenneth Kasper has been directing the Forest City alternative school. He also served for many years as a football and the head high school boys and girls track coach.
"He comes highly-recommended," said VSHS Principal Matt Kingsbury."He is very student-oriented and will be a very good fit for our building."
Kasper has taught biology, chemistry and physics, and also has previous administrative experience as a principal at the former Woden-Crystal Lake/Titonka district before taking the position with the alternative school.
Kasper will replace Ryan Davis, the VS alum who has been promoted to principal of Shellsburg Elementary. Davis has been assistant principal for six years, and helped began the VS alternative high school program.
Like V-S, Forest City has also recently implemented a 1-to-1 laptop program for its high school students.
"We congratulate Mr. Davis on his promotion and are confident that Mr. Kasper will continue the work that Mr. Davis started at the alternative high school, and that he will help take us to the next level," said Kingsbury.
The VS School board will formerly approve the hiring during its next meeting, on May 12. Kingsbury said Kasper plans a visit to VS on May 7.
