Emma Arnold

My name is Emma Arnold, daughter of David Arnold and Sara Yedlik. I live on an acreage apart of my family's farm outside of Vinton. I am a Senior at the Vinton-Shellsburg High School and I will be graduating at the end of May. My plans after high school is to attend Hawkeye community college majoring in Agriculture Business Management. I plan to transfer to Iowa State to major in Agriculture Education.

I am actively involved in 4H, FFA, Vinton-Shellsburg Bowling Team, Cooling Dance Studio, Vinton-Shellsburg Band and assisting my grandfather on the farm. I have been a dancer at Cooling Dance Center for 13 years I have competed in competition for 4 years. Devoting countless hours to my Vinton-Shellsburg FFA chapter is an important part of my life. Through my active participation in FFA, I have been involved in local community projects that include: 3rd grade Ag Day, Farm Safety Day, putting up holiday garland around Vinton for Christmas, delivering flower pots to local businesses, Middle School recruitment activities, Local Greenhand Night, Derecho clean up, place trash cans around town for special events to reduce litter, host petting zoo at local events, etc.

I have been a member of the Vinton Presbyterian youth group for 6 years. Being in this group has given me many opportunities to volunteer. Some projects we do as a group is donate toys to kids in need during the holiday season, volunteer in the church's nursery, collect and donate personal hygiene products to the Ronald McDonald house in Iowa City. Over the past two summers, I have volunteered at Tilford elementary for their summer lunch program. I help cook and package meals for students in our school district.

Through all of my events that I am in, I have received many awards: Greenhand Degree, Chapter Farmer Degree, Iowa Degree, SAE proficiency awards (Beef Production, Crop Production, Horticulture). I have received many awards for participating in leadership events: Parliamentary Procedure (sub-district and district), Conduct of Meetings (sub-districts, districts and state), and Chapter Display(state). 4-H Awards that I have received include: Citizenship Award, Horticulture Award based on record keeping. In band, I received my varsity letter. I have received a varsity letter in bowling. I recently received the Presidential Academic Award.

I gained my passion for Agriculture at an early age. My grandfather and great grandmother helped me find my passion. The first time I fell in love with agriculture is when I got my first bucket bottle calf. When I first walked into my Intro to Agriculture class, I quickly gained a passion for agriculture and FFA. As the year went on, my passion for FFA and agriculture grew. I have gained confidence by helping others gain their passion for FFA. I really enjoy the FFA family that I have gained through the opportunities I have received. I want to help other kids find their passion for FFA and Agriculture.
